Assalamu Alaikum Dear Parents and Students,

Bright Horizon Academy is excited to announce that it will be hosting its first annual virtual Science Fair for students in grades TK through 7th. This exciting activity will, inshallah, be led by Ms. Najwan Naserelddin who has 12 years of Science Fair coaching and mentoring experience and who is certified in STEM Teaching from the National Institute for STEM Education. In addition, mashallah, she was nominated and won the Teacher of the Year Award for the County Science
Fair at the county level on two occasions – 2015 and 2018.

All students in these grades will be encouraged to participate in this fun event. This event is an opportunity for kids to have fun with science and get hands-on practice with the scientific methods, developing fond memories and a sparked interest in various science and engineering applications which they will carry with them through the rest of their lives. The projects will be prepared at home and submitted for the first screening to bhasciencefair@issdweb.org on May 28th, 2020. The first screening will require the student’s to submit their prepared Google Slides as per the attached template. The qualifying projects from this screening will advance to the finals competition level that will be held on Saturday, June 6th 2020.

The students that will advance to the final level of the competition will have the opportunity to present their project formally through Zoom to a panel of judges that will consist of Ms. Najwan, two county fair judges and six winning high school participants from our school that are also grand winners at the California state level Science Fair competition. Following the Zoom judging event, BHA with the help of the AG Student Council will hold an online Award Ceremony to announce the results. All students that participated in the final competition will receive a placement award – First, Second or Third. In addition, there will be two outstanding projects from TK to 3rd Grade that will receive Sweepstakes Awards, plus two outstanding projects from 4th to 7th Grade that will receive Sweepstakes Awards.

Those projects that will receive First Place Award in our school final level will proceed to advance to the County Science Fair Elementary showcase that will be held the following school year science fair competition.
